What Should Clinicians and Patients Know About Private Equity in Health Care?
This AMA Journal of Ethics Grand Rounds canvasses what patients and clinicians should know about private equity in health care. Drs. Dr. Field is professor of law and professor of health management and policy at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law and the Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also an adjunct senior fellow of the Leonard David Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on health system structure, health reform, and bioethics.

Dr. Singh is a health care economist and assistant professor at Brown University School of Public Health in Providence, Rhode Island. Her areas of interest and expertise include consolidation, vertical integration, and private equity (PE) in health care markets. Her current research examines how PE acquisitions of physicians’ practices change practice patterns and influence health care spending, access, quality, and clinician workforces.
