Fostering Professional Identity Formation in Medical Education
Join us for a session on professional identity formation (PIF), the ongoing process by which medical students and physicians integrate the profession's values, behaviors, and norms into their sense of self. We'll discuss how factors such as personal values, culture, and lived experiences shape this development and why recognizing these influences is key to fostering belonging and well-being. The session will also examine common challenges including identity dissonance, imposter syndrome, and exclusion. Finally, we'll share practical strategies for educators and institutions to effectively support professional identity formation in medicine. Hear from Adam Sawatsky, MD, MS; Lalit Radha Krishna, MB, ChB, PhD; Linda Snell, MD, MHPE, FRCPC, Professor of Medicine and Health Sciences Education, McGill University; Rosalynn Conic, MD, PhD, MPH, Resident/Fellow Representative, International Medical Graduates Section; Yasmin Alamdeen, Medical Student Representative, Underrepresented in Medicine Advocacy Section; and Holly Grace, MD, Resident & Fellow Section Representative, Women Physicians Section. Jose Manuel de la Rosa, MD, MSc, will serve as the moderator. Register to attend this webinar. CME information for this session can be found in Activity Information.
